about the band

The Big Lawn

The Big Lawn is from Dunedin, New Zealand. Formed in mid 2018 they released their debut EP ``Help Myself`` in August of the same year. Following its success, they released their first full length album SILVERSPOON (28/11/20). The bulk of the album was recorded at Steve Harrop’s (StrawPeople) Sublime Studio; engineered & co-produced by Dave Craig (Kings/SIX60/Kylie Price). The Big Lawn is Richard Strang on bass (Runt), Blair Scoullar on snyths (Mobius, T H A N), Jim Strang (King Leo), Dave Picard (Purple Playground, Roger Bigg) lead guitar & Jimmy Higgs (Fold, King Kavallo) vocals & guitar. The recording also has significant contributions from Tom Maxwell (Killergrams, The Seaside Stranglers). SILVERSPOON is a well balance mix of full throttle punk-tinged rock & more laid back harmonic lawn clippings. Thoughtful, poetic & varied, it has many layers. Whether by ride-on, flymo or mulcher, these lush pastures are certainly well worth a hoon. MuzicNet: 4/5 stars
``Silverspoon is a great full length debut recording. The production is lush with many textures and layers of instruments blending into a well-crafted album.``
``Track 1 Radiowaves...`{`is a`}`...great to-tempo pop song with its roots firmly in rock, but remaining cliche free.``
``All I Say is another stunning track``
``River Dry brings the tempo down and is a beautiful ballad ... `{` `}`... & has a wonderful and huge chorus.``
``Don’t let this be the album you discover in 5 years’ time, do yourself a favour and discover it now.``
